POSITION SUMMARY :

The Marketing Specialist reports to the Director of Marketing and works in coordination with other Marketing Team members and an assigned Business Unit team.

The Marketing Specialist is responsible for crafting compelling marketing copy, cross-functional team support, ensuring that marketing efforts are high-quality and align with organizational brand standards.

This position will collaborate with stakeholders and coach teams in development of marketing plans, and define appropriate marketing delivery methods (including print collateral, websites and digital media, email and social media campaigns, reports and publications, and other related media).

This position works with SME teams to create and communicate products and services by co-developing and implementing marketing and advertising campaigns;

tracking marketing data; monitoring promotional and collateral materials; and participating in meetings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES :

Partners with business units to design, develop, and coordinate marketing materials (brochures, informational materials, newsletters, etc.

advertisements, press releases, website / video / multimedia content, and promotions that describe the programs and services of Michigan Virtual.

  • Copywriting, editing, and digital graphic creation of marketing materials (eg.marketing copy, blog posts, emails, and other written materials) in partnership with a Marketing Team and Business Unit in a matrixed organizational structure
  • Develops, implements, monitors and analyzes the annual marketing calendar in coordination with the assigned Business Unit and Marketing Team.
  • Project management of marketing deliverables for a specific Business Unit; including coordination of marketing projects and tasks to ensure deadlines are met and fall within budget.
  • Regularly report on the status of marketing projects and resources needed or available.
  • Builds positive relationships with Business Unit teams, external vendors and key stakeholders (agencies, printers, photographers, Educational Organizations etc.

to complete projects on time and on budget with appropriate solutions based on Marketing Team expertise.

  • Creates and executes Scope Documents (process and project work plans) and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Recommends appropriate solutions to the project and the preferences of the Business Unit partner without compromising organizational resources and standards.
  • Sets and manages internal and external customer expectations, communicates effectively, learns about and serves other’s needs.
  • Remain aware of marketing budgets through the life cycle of projects and discuss cost implications with the Business Unit and management team.
  • Manages and delivers all project-related work in Michigan Virtual collaboration software tool : Wrike.
  • Supports marketing task scheduling, communications and implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Conveys Michigan Virtual message both in written and verbal business development discussions.
  • Understands and contributes toward Organizational Key Results and performance indicators.
  • Delivers effective, engaging, informative, well-organized marketing materials.
  • Resolves and / or escalates issues in a timely manner.
  • Explores new opportunities that add value to departmental accomplishments.
  • Assists in the development of all Business Unit marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Facilitates internal and external meetings in a ready, focused, present, respectful and positive way.
  • Leads diverse teams in process improvement initiatives including tool use, analysis, redesign and transformation.
  • Continually acknowledges and appreciates teammates’ contributions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, & LICENSURES (minimum requirements) :

Bachelor’s degree.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (minimum requirements) :

  • Level I : 0-3 years professional marketing, project management, or K-12 education experience with positive references and work examples.
  • Level I : Experience supporting a single product / service area with marketing needs or contributed on a team towards a marketing campaign.
  • Level II : 3-5 years of professional marketing, project management, or K-12 education experience with a proven record of success including on-time and within budget project delivery.
  • Level II : Experience supporting 1-2 products / service areas with marketing needs or contributed on a team towards a marketing campaign

DESIRED EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or Business Administration.
  • Evidence of continued post-degree professional development related to digital marketing, project management, education, or other related areas.
  • Experience preferably in the area of public schools, nonprofits, technology or operations.
  • Previous work among K-12 educators.
  • Project management certification or continuing education.
  • Social media certification or social media management experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (minimum requirements) :

  • Able to combine an overall understanding of marketing best practices and a comprehensive knowledge of promotion-related communications / media concepts, policies, and degree of competency utilizing technology and online tools, including learning and content management systems, web conferencing, social media, productivity and other related software applications.
  • Effective project management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work a standard forty-hour week in the Michigan Virtual office in Lansing, MI.
  • Range of knowledge about fundamental marketing practices.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms such as, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of stakeholders, students, teachers, and staff.
  • Excellent listening, storytelling, communication, reading, writing and presentation skills in a variety of media.
  • Ability to learn and apply new skills and technology quickly.
  • Ability to work well in teams and able to work independently.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office productivity products (, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and ability to maintain a healthy atmosphere within teams.
  • Efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously.
