We are seeking a professional with a passion for growing learners, and themselves, for a position with our team. Our school has strong ties to the community of Waukesha and our neighborhood as we support ALL learners in learning, growing and excelling every day.

We are seeking an individual with a passion for working with younger elementary aged students.

SUMMARY : To collaboratively work with the classroom teacher to meet the diverse needs of students within the classroom.

Additional hours and responsibilities for lunch and recess supervision might be available.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :

  • Work with individual students and small groups as directed by the classroom teacher that directly supports the needs of the given students.
  • Given explicit direction from the classroom teacher, lead appropriate classroom activities.
  • Complete other organizational and clerical tasks requested by the classroom teacher such as copying, cutting, or assistance with classroom projects.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in reinforcing classroom guidelines and procedures.
  • Supervise students in the lunch room and / or on the playground before / after lunch.
  • Enforce school rules in the lunch room, hallways and playground.
  • Assist students in obtaining lunch from the lunch lines.
  • Ensure the safety of students.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required at the time of hire or for the continuation of employment.

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :

  • Must meet the educational requirements for highly qualified
  • Have at least 2 years of post-secondary education equivalent to 48 credits OR have an Associates’ Degree OR have met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • District and School policies and procedures
  • Safety procedures within District and School
  • Child development stages
  • Approaches and strategies to positively engage and motivate students

LANGUAGE SKILLS :

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and directions.
  • Communication with students in a way which fosters the development of a positive self-image.
  • Exercise good judgment in dealings with students, parents, other staff and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

REASONING ABILITY :

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and effectively solve problems.
  • Utilize problem-solving techniques in correcting and changing student behavior.
  • Use discretion in handling confidential information about students.
  • Model and reinforce positive behaviors which are expected of students.
