As the Off-Shift Core Lab Supervisor, you will be responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of caregivers performing laboratory testing and the timely and accurate reporting of test results.
In this role, you will assess the competency of testing caregivers performing laboratory testing (high complexity, moderate complexity, and waived testing) as defined by CLIA.
Supervisors are assigned to a specific area or shift depending on your individual expertise.

Responsibilities :
- Effectively trains, evaluates and when necessary, disciplines departmental personnel in accordance to established policies and procedures for their laboratory section.
- Effectively manages work schedules and work assignments to ensure adequate staff coverage for efficient processing of section work activities.
- Effectively monitors and coordinates quality control / quality assurance programs and initiates corrective action in response to any deficiency.
- Ensures that all requirements for CAP, JCAHO and CLIA accreditation are met and that the section complies with all hospital, local, state and federal safety regulations.
- Ensures that procedures are followed to provide accurate test results with optimum turnaround time to enhance quality of patient care.
- Effectively evaluates new equipment and instrument needs, may prepare cost justification and makes recommendations for purchase.
- Monitors budget to maintain expenses within allocated funds; justifies variances in all expense categories.
- Effectively implements cost containment measures consistent with departmental goals.
- Participates in staff meetings to facilitate improved communication.
- Establishes safe work methods and practices in coordination and cooperation with the safety officer, trains staff and enforces compliance.
- Ensures that reports, performance evaluations, competency testing and statistics are consistently prepared, thorough and on time.
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education.
- Aids in developing systems to detect, correct and prevent potential problems of noncompliance with Medicare, Medicaid and third party payor regulations and reports potential compliance problems to the Laboratory Director and / or Compliance Department of the Health System.
- May be required to utilize computer programs to implement new software, build new tests, make changes to existing tests, and build and maintain a variety of files.
- May be required to effectively maintain a specialized computer system in optimal working order. Directs employees during upgrades and enhancements and conducts educational training sessions for employees on all shifts who use the system.
- May work as a medical technologist or cytologist as certification permits, performing laboratory testing (highly complex, moderately complex or waived) as defined by CLIA.
- Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
- May require travel between different sites

Education :
Doctorate, master's or bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
Master's Degree, preferably in Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, MBA or the equivalent. One year training in approved program.
Certifications :
registry / certification as Medical Technologist / Clinical Laboratory Scientist level (CH M or MT) or Cytotechnologist (CT).
Complexity of Work :
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of specialized software applications as required by specialty.
Work Experience :
Four years laboratory experience which includes increasing levels of responsibilities within a clinical laboratory.
