Job Overview :

Albertus Magnus College invites applications for a full-time Coordinator of Accessibility Services and Student Success Specialist (aka Coordinator) who serves as the primary resource for ensuring that all students (from day and evening programs) receive appropriate and reasonable disability-related services, works collaboratively with student and academic support staff and administration to provide a supportive living and learning environment for all students, and provides education and guidance to the college community to promote an understanding of rights and responsibilities pertaining to disability services.

The Coordinator works under the direction of the Dean of Advising and Student Success The position has extensive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.

The incumbent is expected to represent the College in a positive manner and to collaborate with academic and student services departments to contribute to retaining students.

This is an in-person position, a 12-month position.

Education :

Earned Master’s Degree in Disabilities Studies, Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, or a related field required.

Three years of experience in higher education disability services is preferred.

Qualifications :

  • Professional experience working on regulatory compliance requirements including, but not limited to Title VII, Title VI, ADA and other nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws, rules and regulations.
  • Proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).
  • Demonstrated substantial knowledge, skills, and ability in the following areas : Providing interventions and accommodations in an academic environment ADA laws / regulations related to students with diagnosed disabilities Ability to interpret diagnostic testing assessments and instruments Advising students need accommodations Designing and developing interventions for students with disabilities Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity Demonstrates and supports an understanding, sensitivity, and appreciation for social justice, cultural humility, and inclusiveness.

Essential Functions :

  • Oversee the development, management, coordination, and delivery of services to students with special needs / disabilities in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Work with Admissions in clarifying services offered for prospective students.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to ensure that students with disabilities receive reasonable accommodations and services in accordance with the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (as amended) and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (as amended).
  • Acts as an advocate for students with disabilities / special population students and participates in development of an educational environment that promotes their success.
  • Determine what accommodations are appropriate and reasonable for a student’s program of study based on documentation and interviews.
  • Apprise students of the opportunities and resources that are available to them to support student accessibility.
  • Assist students in better understanding the nature of their disability and offer strategies to strengthen their learning and their capacity for self-advocacy.
  • Foster a campus climate that is welcoming, informed, and conducive to the promotion of inclusive excellence.
  • Creates and maintains a secure listing of students who have medical concerns while on campus or who need assistance in the event of an emergency evacuation.

Acts as liaison with campus security to ensure compliance.

  • Assess initiatives and services to ensure their efficacy and ongoing improvement.
  • Assist with formulating and managing annual budgets related to program services and costs estimating program services and costs;

developing budgets related to planned services and monitoring expenses in compliance with operating budgets.

  • Represents Student Disability Services in operational and strategic planning processes.
  • Help to support students who have unique challenges mitigating their academic and personal success.
  • Identify barriers to academic success and assist students in creating and applying action plans for overcoming challenges.
  • Help students maximize their potential by supporting and assisting students in gaining effective strategies and behaviors that can support their personal and academic lives.
  • Prepare and maintain internal and external reports and documentation.
  • Serve on College committees as appropriate.
  • Serve as the College representative for the Association of Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD).
  • Expected to maintain currency in the position’s fields of professional expertise and competencies.
  • Required to maintain complete confidentiality of student records and other information of a confidential nature.
  • Participate in orientations and open houses.
  • Undertake other projects as assigned by the Dean of Advising and Student Success.

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the position is required to carry out the essential duties of :

  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies.
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces.
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Technology Skills : Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail, and the Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly, including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.

Ability to teach by leveraging the learning management system and other technology tools.

Language Skills : Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Reasoning Ability : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a group member in developing and executing project plans.

Ability to work in the theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.

Work Schedule Requirements :

Monday - Friday 8 : 30-4 : 30

Flexibility is essential; periodic evening and occasional weekend hours are required.

Benefits :

Full-time employees are eligible to receive medical, dental, and vision benefits. Full-Time employees can earn between 18-23 paid time off a year.

The employer covers tuition remission after 90 days of employment and covers 100 % (employees responsible for books and technology fees).

The college is committed to work-life balance and has a summer schedule from June through August. We currently have 14 paid holidays, including a winter break.
