The Drug Enforcement and Policy Center (DEPC) at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law promotes and supports interdisciplinary, evidence-based research, scholarship, education, community outreach, and public engagement on the myriad issues and societal impacts surrounding the reform of criminal and civil laws prohibiting or regulating the use and distribution of traditionally illicit drugs.

The center examines the impact of modern drug laws, policies, and enforcement on personal freedoms and human well-being, giving particularized and sustained attention to analyzing the rapid evolution of marijuana laws and the impacts of state-level reform efforts.

The project manager will work closely with the Administrative Director to manage two high-profile projects : the Opportunity Port and the Ohio Governor’s Expedited Pardon Project.

Opportunity Port (OP) is a mobile-friendly tool connecting justice-involved persons with legal help to complete and file record sealing applications in Franklin County, Ohio.

OP was a finalist in The Ohio State University Alliance for the American Dream, a partnership with Schmidt Futures, and is currently being spearheaded by the office of Columbus City Councilmember Rob Dorans.

By democratizing and digitizing access to legal help, OP aims to increase the uptake of record-sealing applications and promote greater economic and social prosperity for successful applicants.

The Ohio Governor’s Expedited Pardon Project (OGEPP) aims to enhance and expedite the process by which people apply for a formal pardon from the Ohio Governor under Ohio’s laws.

The project seeks to reduce challenges surrounding a clemency application in Ohio for people meeting certain criteria with exceptional stories who can show that they have been rehabilitated and have contributed positively to their communities after completing their sentences.

The project was established in 2019 in collaboration between Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, the Drug Enforcement and Policy Center at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, and the Reentry Clinic at The University of Akron School of Law.
