Title : Senior Grants Manager

Reports to : Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives & Policy

Date : October 2023

Position Overview :

The Senior Grants Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce's Foundation fundraising efforts.

They will employ critical thinking, sales, and research skills in their day-to-day work. The Senior Grants Manager will report to the Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Policy , and will collaborate with the programs, economic inclusion, policy, and finance teams.

A key priority for this role will be to generate grant funding from various sources, such as private, community, and family foundations, as well as from government and other private sources.

This person will need to think outside the box and proactively seek out opportunities that parallel the Foundation's strategic goals.

Strong sales leadership and persuasive selling skills are a requirement for this position.

Responsibilities :

Grant & Financial Management -

  • With guidance from the SVP of Strategic Initiatives & Policy, monitor all operations related to the Foundation's grant funding, including prospect research and strategy.
  • Develop institutional fundraising strategy to meet annual budget.
  • Generate a strong pipeline for fundraising leads and follow up consistently.
  • Obtain high-level customer appointments.
  • Support senior leadership team in strategic planning and projecting grants revenue to aid in budget planning and monitoring.
  • Create and monitor the annual calendar of proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, and establish a tracking system.
  • Track and monitor goal and revenue progress on a quarterly basis, by managing grant projections and grants received.
  • Provide recommendations, reports, and data for senior leadership to help ensure accuracy and revenue goal setting in foundation and corporate support budget planning.
  • Research, identify, and cultivate foundation, corporate, federal, and state prospects for projects aligned with the Foundation's priorities.
  • Evaluate grant-funded programs with program managers.

Grant Writing -

  • Develop well-researched, tailored, and high-impact proposals, reports, presentations, and other grant-related deliverables, through effective and compelling communication, in a voice that reflects the Foundation's mission, programs, and goals.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to identify funding needs, strategize grant opportunities, and determine proposal approach, timeline, and deliverables.

Foundation Relationships -

  • Leverage existing relationships by scheduling and orchestrating meetings with funders and other key stakeholders. Support program managers with existing relationships.
  • Lead discussions and nurture relationships with foundation administrators to build compelling and informed proposals, while developing a pipeline for new relationships.
  • Develop and maintain annual cultivation and stewardship plans for current and potential funders.
  • Represent the organization at external meetings, maintain existing and build new partnerships with funders and collaborators.

Education / Qualifications :

  • 6+ years of grant writing and fundraising experience
  • Excellent selling, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to manage relationships and projects with multiple internal and external constituencies.
  • A successful candidate will be a high-output, proactive individual with keen attention to detail.
  • Initiative-taking, communicative, collaborative, and able to thrive independently are essential qualities for this role
  • Ability to prioritize across potentially competing objectives and timelines
  • Strong business ethics and values

Salary Range : $72,000 - $85,000

This job requires you to be in the office a minimum of three days a week.

This is a sedentary job by nature but does require travel. Requires being able to sit at a desk and use a computer and phone for most of the day.

When traveling, an employee must be mobile enough to get around events and assist with set up and break down including lifting 25lbs or more.
