The Department of Political Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for a non-tenure track, nine-month, full-time Lecturer to begin on August 1, 2024.

The initial appointment for this nine-month position will be for one year, but with the likelihood of renewal based on quality of instruction, funding, and department need.

The successful candidate will teach four classes in both fall and spring semesters. Lecturers can also teach in summer and winter mini-terms, depending on staffing needs.

We seek candidates who are dedicated to a career of exceptional teaching of Political Science. This position will likely provide a path to promotion to Senior Lecturer and ultimately Distinguished Lecturer, which entail salary increases and extended appointments.

Several lecturers in our current department have been on faculty for a decade or more and have successfully advanced to the distinguished and senior lecturer ranks.

Professional development opportunities are available to Lecturers and supported by both the Department and College. Responsibilities include modest service roles.

Candidates must have a PhD in Political Science or equivalent at the time of appointment. We are seeking candidates with a strong background in American Politics, International Relations, and or Comparative Politics, and a commitment to fostering the goals of the department, college, and university.

The Department of Political Science has approximately 650 undergraduate majors and 30 MA and . students. The city of Knoxville, with a population of 200,000 and growing, is a hidden gem with a beautiful and walkable downtown, varied nightlife, active neighborhoods, and eclectic cultural activities, shopping, and restaurants.

It is home to the Knoxville Symphony and the Knoxville Opera, as well as annual festivals like the international Big Ears Music Festival, Jazz on the Square, and Shakespeare on the Square.

Trip Advisor recently named Knoxville a Top Ten Destination on the Rise. UTK is located within easy driving distance to Atlanta, Nashville, Asheville, and the Great Smoky Mountains.

PhD in Political Science or equivalent is required at the time of appointment. Record of successful teaching and mentoring in an institution of higher education related to American Politics, Comparative Politics, or International Relations is preferred.

Experience or demonstrated ability in the design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats, including face-to-face, synchronous online, asynchronous online, and hybrid is preferred.

Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds is essential.
