POSITION SUMMARY

The Field Safety Coordinator will be responsible for leading safety initiatives onsite at various locations within the Baltimore-DC-Virginia areas.

Responsibilities include assisting in the development of safety procedures and standards, conducting worker safety training, monitoring hazardous conditions, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, customer, state and local regulations.

Additionally, the role entails supporting a culture of safety improvement, investigating incidents, and collaborating with site personnel and project teams to analyze root causes and implement corrective solutions.

This position reports to the Director of Operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assisting in the development of procedures for safety standards and best practices through frequent interaction and open communication with managers, employees, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Conducting and coordinating worker safety training in areas such as safety standards and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment for new and current employees.
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA, customer, state, and local regulations; and supports safety efforts to continuously improve overall site safety culture.
  • Working under the supervision of the Director of Operations to conduct testing of air quality, noise, temperature, etc.

  • Conducting interactive training to help field personnel acquire necessary skills, knowledge, and training certifications.
  • Investigating and documenting near miss and / or workers compensation incidents.
  • Working with jobsite personnel and project teams to perform root-cause analysts, evaluate information, and implement corrective solutions.
  • Gives feedback to manager on training needs for field staff, and oversees training sessions
  • Conducts quality control site inspections and ensure compliance.
  • Submits written reports and alerts Dir. of Operations and field personnel of any potential field issues related to equipment.
  • Implements safety policies and procedures including but not limited to : site specific health and safety plan, project site observation reports, incident investigations, training and methods geared toward continuous improvement.
  • Promotes safety practices in the field.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3 5 years of experience as a safety coordinator or trainer in a well-structured construction safety program.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of all OSHA regulations as they apply to construction.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement effective corrective measures.
  • Previous field construction supervision experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have OSHA 500
  • Candidates who are English / Spanish bi-lingual may be given preference

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards pertaining to workplace safety.
  • Ability to develop and implement safety procedures and protocols in line with OSHA requirements.
  • Proficiency in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively train and educate employees on safety practices.
  • Experience in investigating incidents, near misses, and workers' compensation accidents, and documenting findings appropriately
  • Ability to analyze data, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Strong understanding of hazardous conditions and expertise in monitoring and controlling them.
  • Capability to collaborate with stakeholders, including employees, managers, subcontractors, and clients, to promote a safety culture.
  • Proficiency in evaluating safety equipment, ensuring proper use, maintenance, and compliance.
  • Continuous commitment to staying updated on OSHA regulations, best practices, and industry trends to enhance safety initiatives.
  • Ability to successfully and accurately communicate English orally and in writing with all levels; Spanish bilingual a plus.
  • Computation and problem-solving skills and an ability to work with most Microsoft programs
  • Team player with strong leadership skills and the ability to work cooperatively with employees and the public.
  • Strong customer emphasis and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational quality-oriented skills with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Knowledge of OSHA construction regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and understand when to refer matters to the Service Manager.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and feeling
  • Manual dexterity with regular use of automated systems and physically transporting items weighing up to 60 pounds
  • Constant use of overall vision with depth perception, focal length change and color vision
  • Frequent hearing and talking, in person and on phone, with elevated noise exposure
  • Continuous concentration and analysis with ability to do detailed work and maintain accuracy
  • Use of logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of solutions and approaches to problems

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Regular travel to multiple jobsites
  • May be subjected to inclement weather and hazardous working conditions
  • Work overtime or weekend / night-time duty or potential on-call as needed
