We are working with a fun, energetic, top-notch, mid-sized Chicago firm seeking 2-5 yr. associates with medical malpractice and mass tort defense backgrounds.
Appellate experience is a plus, but not a requirement. Associate attorneys can expect significant responsibility, regular client contact, and opportunities for advancement (the firm has a partnership track).
Billable hours are 2000 hrs. / yr., and salary is $110,000-$140,000 (depending upon experience). The firm offers yearly bonuses at the beginning of the year comprising 15-20% of salary, depending upon performance, feedback, and contribution to firm life, as well as salary increases mid-year, the size of which depends upon similar factors.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage an active case load.
- Manage timely reporting to clients and insureds.
- Maintain client satisfaction, providing prompt communication before, during and after cases.
- Research the law applicable to cases or matters; draft legal documents, pleadings, motions, briefs, memoranda, and opinions as required.
- Remain current with developments in the law.
- Conduct discovery; hearings; trials; depositions (taking and defending); oral arguments; mediations; arbitrations; administrative and similar proceedings, as required;
and properly prepare clients, insureds, and other persons, as necessary and appropriate, in relevant litigation contexts.
- Effectively communicate and persuade using written and verbal skills.
- Coordinate with experts, when appropriate.
- Conduct settlement negotiations, as appropriate.
- Do all other work necessary to provide vigorous advocacy to the client.
- Meet all deadlines in a timely manner providing completed work product to the supervising attorney sufficiently in advance of any deadline for constructive discussion of options.
- Bill 2000 hrs. / yr.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Litigation experience : 2+ (Required)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Medical Malpractice and / or Mass Tort Defense background
- Computer and software proficiency
- Active member of the Illinois State Bar

- This is an indoor office environment and may require sitting and utilizing a computer for extended periods of time. A candidate should have the ability to do so to complete job requirements.
