Manages staff providing patient care services and assists with managing the overall operations of the department. Contributes to the development / revision of policies, procedures, protocols and standards of care.

Serves as a representative of the department and acts as a liaison with other departments.

Oversees cardiac diagnostics, in the hospital inpatient setting as well as outpatients at the hospital and two other offsite hospital locations.

Oversees Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Neuro Diagnostics in the inpatient hospital setting as well as outpatient services at Elkhart General Hospital.

Manages the daily activities of department staff to ensure high quality, efficient patient care by :

  • Working with staff to develop interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Managing day to day operations, supervising staff, evaluating work, and recommending and implementing approved disciplinary action.
  • Acting as a resource and role model for diagnostic cardiology / neuro diagnostic and cardiopulmonary rehab staff.
  • Assisting with service recovery, resolving customer concerns, conducting investigations and intervening when immediate attention is needed and reporting results to the appropriate person.
  • Coordinating staff work schedules, predicting short- and long-term staffing needs and making adjustments in staffing levels.
  • Ensuring the availability of equipment, supplies or other resources required for patient care.
  • Developing and updating protocols and procedures in accordance with evidenced-based practice.
  • Maintaining HIPAA and confidentiality compliance and data security.
  • Overseeing the utilization, security and maintenance o program facility and equipment.

Manages the overall operations of the departments by :

  • Participating in interviewing and the selection of new staff.
  • Preparing and giving performance appraisals, coaching and, if necessary, disciplining staff as directed.
  • Coordinating Quality Improvement / Quality Assurance activities.
  • Monitoring month-to-month financial statements for adherence, e.g., reviewing and monitoring payment for all Program-related expenditures and invoices, monitoring compliance with all contracts and financial commitments, etc.
  • Participating in the development of operating and capital budgets; also assisting with the implementation of cost-efficient programs.
  • Conducting product analysis and pursuing cost saving initiatives.
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating departmental goals, policies, procedures or standards of care.
  • Participating in Hospital committees and activities as assigned.
  • Preparing for department meetings as directed.
  • Assisting in approving payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Interpreting, enforcing and supporting hospital policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Ensuring that the accreditation standards established by various regulatory bodies (i.e., The Joint Commission, State Board of Health, etc.) are maintained.

Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by :

Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements :

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license / certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position / department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelorï ½s or Master's Degree in Business or Healthcare Administration.

At least three years of related experience including experience or knowledge of cardiovascular product lines such as cardiac rehabilitation, diagnostic screening, wellness programs and community outreach initiatives.

Prior professional experience in sales / marketing preferred. Cardiac rehabilitation program management experience desirable.

Must have or obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within 90 days.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Requires a high level understanding of diagnostic cardiology, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs, and neuro diagnostics.
  • Demonstrates solid management skills needed to provide effective direction and manage the effective utilization of resources;

also requires the ability to promote teamwork.

  • Exhibits a participative leadership style that supports exceptional team building
  • Requires the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to build and maintain effective working relationships and to interact in a highly effective manner with all levels of staff and physicians.
  • Requires the ability to disseminate information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Demonstrates excellent planning and organization skills necessary for project planning and to coordinate the activities of diverse groups of individuals.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (i.e., email, word, excel spread sheets ).
  • Requires a strong customer service orientation.
  • Requires ability to develop and manage budgets and monitor compliance to ensure financial stability and a comprehensive understanding of billing and reimbursement procedures for hospital outpatient-related services.
  • Requires excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Working Conditions

  • Works in an office environment.
  • Travel between Beacon entities and surrounding locations is required.

Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential duties of the position.
