Position Details :
The position is a full-time, 12-month annual postdoctoral scholar position at Washington State University’s Lind Dryland Research Station (LDRS) within the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences .
The initial appointment will be for one year, with renewal dependent on satisfactory performance and available funding for up to two years.
Summary of Duties :
The primary responsibility of this position is to manage ongoing field trials, collect soil and plant samples, collect data, analyze the samples and data, and write reports and peer-reviewed publications.
The position involves working on dryland agronomy, fertility, and soil health aspects of wheat, canola, peas, camelina, and other potential dryland crops in the region.
The incumbent will be working on generating and disseminating findings among farmers and other stakeholders via extension talks, presentations, and reports.
Required Qualifications :
Ph.D. in agronomy, soil science, or related field.
Experience with data analysis and large data management.
Experience with diverse cropping rotational systems, soil fertility, soil carbon, and soil health.
Experience working with amplicon sequencing and metagenomic data.
Experience with soil and plant sample analyses and soil moisture monitoring.
Experience with field trials management and data collection from dryland cropping systems.
Experience with manuscript publishing, presentations, and extension talks.
Ability to work with cross disciplinary teams and excellent communication skills.
Ability to supervise team, technicians, and student research assistants.
Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.
10 and departmental driving standards.
Ability to work outdoors and lift / transport up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications :
Ph.D. within the last 3 years.
Demonstrated experience with publishing scholarly articles and conference presentations.
Understanding and experience with dryland cropping systems and rotations.
Experience with soil, gas, and plant sample processing, and analyses.
Experience in running lab instruments traditionally used in a soil analytical lab.
Demonstrated experience with statistical analyses using software like R, SAS, or similar.
Experience with metanalysis data collection and analysis.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Temporary End Date :
This is a temporary, non-tenure track position expected to end one (1) year from the start date. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and / or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
